One of our main objectives of Cape Verde in Need is:
To relieve the poverty of young people by enabling them to participate in healthy recreational activities that they could not otherwise afford. This will be by providing sports coaching by a qualified football coach, the provision of donated football kit and travelling expenses for the young people.
Estoril is a very successful academy in the village of Monte Sossego, São Vicente. All of the coaches and support staff provide their time and skills freely in order to provide a better future for the children. Some of the children in this academy have been previous gang members, often coming from serious financial hardships and difficult home lives. By being part of this academy, they are supported in better life decisions.
Cape Verde in Need is supporting this academy by providing football shirts, some boots and footballs. Gus has also agreed to coach the under 13 and under 15 teams at the academy.
We were lucky enough to be invited along to the beginning of the new season signings yesterday evening. We met the academy President, vice President along with the coach and players from the senior team. Afterwards they invited us to join them for a hot meal of chicken soup and pasta. They try to provide a meal for the kids in need three times a week and get sponsors from local businesses in the area to contribute.
Huge thanks must go to everyone that has contributed football kits, balls and financial support towards this project
