Education is important!
In Cape Verde, children have access to free and compulsory education for 8 years however, there are obstacles to children’s access to this education. We are very aware that children growing up in poverty and disadvantage are less likely to achieve their potential at school and break the poverty cycle.
The obstacles are transportation, school meals and even basic stationary supplies. For the last 3 years we have been supporting families in most need with stationary packs.
Last year we were thrilled to be able to provide 284 children with full school packs. Along with 12 large suitcases of school supplies to schools in poorer areas of Sal, São Vicente, São Nicolau and Santo Antão. We’re really hoping to be able to do the same this year.
If you have a little room in your suitcase and are travelling to Sal, would you please consider bringing a few school supplies over.
- Blue and Black ball point pens
- Pencils
- A4 lined paper
- A5 lined paper
- Sharpener
- Eraser
- Pencil case
- School bag (ideally a hard-wearing rucksack that can be reused, second hand is fine) or a drawstring bag like in the picture.
Each of these packs cost less than £3. The packs do not need to be made up (however it does save our volunteers a job the other end ), anything you can bring will be very much appreciated.
If you would like to bring school supplies or other donations, we are always happy to arrange free charity luggage. (Tui UK flights only)
Alternatively, you can donate money to us through our website, the secure donation button is on our home page. Please add a line in the ‘Write a note (optional)’ box stating for school supplies.
Thank you so much for your continued support
