Four years ago when we started working on Cape Verde in Need the objective was to relieve the effects of poverty being felt by Covid-19. We set out to help those in most need, those that had lost their jobs, income and sometimes homes due to the sudden shut down of tourism.
During this time we have achieved so much thanks to your help, we have provided:
🫘 1737 food parcels
✏️ 453 children with back to school bags & supplies
🎅🏾 855 Christmas gifts for the children
👟 975kg of donations
⚽️ 500 football kits, hundreds of boots, ball, basketballs, volleyballs and other sporting equipment
🦽 20 wheelchairs and healthcare support
🎨 3 social enterprises, providing equipment for start up businesses
None of this would have been possible without our supporters and volunteers. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Together we are stronger 🙏
The positive news is in 2023 Cape Verde saw a 20.4% increase in visitor count compared to the same period in 2022. Sal and Boa Vista are now out performing pre pandemic figures. 2024 is set to be the best year on record!
Therefore as a charity we feel our charity objectives have been met and it’s time to move on to new ventures.
We are of course aware that there is still a vast amount of poverty, 30% of Cape Verdean’s live below the poverty line and 14% of them live in extreme poverty. Whilst Carole and I are hanging up our hats, Lisa and Gus are going to be working on other projects within Cape Verde.
